Staying Well: Protect Nebraskans' Care
Tuesday, June 13
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join Nebraska Appleseed and Urban Abbey for an evening of story sharing and advocacy, centered around protecting Health Care for Nebraskans.

Nebraskans who could lose coverage under the proposed house American Health Care Act will share their true health care stories.

This event will cut through complicated policy to the heart of the issue: that all Nebraskans deserve to stay well.

After watching and listening to health care stories, we'll open up a group discussion about how health care policy affects all of us, and you'll have the opportunity to take action by writing to Congress members, asking them to protect our care.

This event is part of Urban Abbey's partnership month with Nebraska Appleseed. 10% of all coffee purchases at Urban Abbey during the month of June will go to support Appleseed's work.

Pride Parade
Saturday, June 17
9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Show your pride by marching with Urban Abbey in the 2017 Heartland Pride Parade!

Abbey staff, allies and friends will gather at 10th & Main in Council Bluffs. Please arrive no later than 9:30 am. We will line up at 9:30 am and move together to our official line-up spot for the parade, which begins at 10:00 am.

We will march through the streets proclaiming that all are beloved, just as they are! Wear your Urban Abbey t-shirt, pack water, and come out to walk in a spirit of community. Bedazzled and blinged out t-shirts are welcome! We will be marching with our friends from FUMC Omaha. At the end of the parade route, we will celebrate communion for those who want to participate. At that time, please circle around and invite others to join as they feel called.

Pride Sunday
Sunday, June 18
10:00 am & 5:30 pm
Join us for our Pride Sunday Service as we welcome the Rev. Dr. Dawson B. Taylor to give a guest sermon, “The View from the Rainbow Room.”

Rev. Dr. Dawson B. Taylor serves as Senior Minister of Naples United Church of Christ. He became the church’s sixth Senior Minister on Feb.21, 2016 and will be formally installed to that office in a worship service in January of 2017. Prior to his role as Senior Minister, Dr. Taylor served as Associate Minister when he was called to Naples in December of 2013. Before that, he served in his native Texas. Dr. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Centenary College of Louisiana where he served a Congressional internship and two terms as student body president. His Masters of Theological Studies is from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and his Doctorate of Ministry in preaching is from The Chicago Theological Seminary. Dr. Taylor is a part of the Next Generation Leadership Initiative of the Pension Boards of the United Church of Christ, which identifies young leaders (age 35 or younger at the time of selection) for training for the “church of the future.” Locally, Dr. Taylor serves on the boards of GLSEN-Collier and Baby Basics of Collier County. Dawson enjoys traveling and time with family, especially with his nieces Riley, Paige and Kathryn Wright and his nephew Brooks. (And most importantly, of course, Dawson was roommates with the Rev. Debra McKnight during seminary.)
