Seeking Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel Saturday, November 4 6:30 - 8:30 pm Join us for a showing of the first film about Gaza made by Palestinians living the reality of Israel's siege and blockade of this tiny enclave. It is the story of two young women, survivors of Israel's Operation Cast Lead. Mona Samouni and the filmmaker, Fida Qishta. They represent the spirit and future of Palestinians It reveals the strengthand hope, the humanity and humor that flourish among the people of Gaza. Few films document so powerfully and personally the impact of modern warfare and sanctions on a civilian population.

Long-time residents of Omaha from El Salvador will tell their stories about how they came to live in the United States, their work and lives among us, and the Temporary Protective Status (TPS) that has allowed them to live here since 2001. That TPS status is now threatened by the current administration. Come to learn about TPS and what you can do to help 3,000 families with deep roots stay in our community.

Veterans Day Book-Signing and Event: “The Soldier’s Story: The Invisible Wounds from War” Thursday, November 9 6:00 - 8:00 pm Join the Urban Abbey for this Veterans Day event featuring author and former Staff Sergeant Jocephus Duckworth and a multi-organization panel of experts, military members, veterans, and their families discussing PTSD and its impact on veterans in the Omaha community.
6:00 - 7:00 pm: Former Staff Sergeant Jocephus Duckworth will read excerpts from and discuss his book, The Soldier's Story: The Invisible Wounds from War, about his experiences returning from war and dealing with PTSD. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.
7:00 - 8:00 pm: Panel discussion about PTSD and its impact on military veterans, their families, and the Omaha community.

OTOC Issues Café: Predatory Lending Reform with Senator Tony Vargas Friday, November 17 6:45 – 8:00 pm State Senator Tony Vargas will discuss changes in federal legislation and state law to better regulate predatory lending in Nebraska, specifically Pay Day Lending. Vargas and Immigration Attorney Ross Pesek will also discuss up-to-date developments in federal and state law and policy regarding Temporary Protective Status (TPS), Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and other immigration issues.
